1-on-1 video chat

1-on-1 video chat. Two people, no audience.

No group to perform for, no chat room to shout over. AnonSpin puts you in a private video call with one random stranger, and when you are done, one more spin brings the next.

Three questions

Which kind of video chat suits you?

One on one video chat is not for everyone, and that is fine. Answer three quick questions and we will tell you honestly, even if the answer is somewhere else.

Question 1 of 3

Who do you want to talk to?

One on one video chat

Why one on one beats a crowd

In a group call, the loudest person sets the tone and everyone else waits for a gap. In a 1-on-1 video chat there is no gap to wait for. It is your turn half the time, every question is aimed at you, and you can hear the other person properly. Conversations go further in five minutes than they do in half an hour in a busy room.

It is also easier on nerves. Talking to one stranger feels like chatting to someone on a train; talking to six feels like giving a speech. People who would never speak up in a group room are often relaxed and funny one on one.

The trade-off is that there is nowhere to hide. If the chat is not working, there is no one else to talk to, so the right move is to say a kind goodbye and spin again. On a random 1-on-1 video chat that costs nothing: the next person is a moment away.

  • Your turn, half the timeNobody talks over you.
  • No audienceThe call is between the two of you.
  • Easy exitsEnd the chat and spin again whenever you like.

1v1 video call vs. the rest

Call apps are the most private of all, but only because you already know the person. Live streams are the least private and the least equal: one person performs, everyone else watches. A private video chat with strangers sits in between: someone new, with no one else in the room.

Private video chat with strangers

Private does not mean personal

A 1-on-1 call keeps other people out of the room. It does not make the stranger someone you know. AnonSpin does not ask for your name, email or phone number to start, so keep it that way in the conversation too: no surnames, no addresses, no social handles in the first chat. If you hit it off, follow them and decide later what else to share.

Getting the most out of a 1-on-1 video chat

  • Sit where the light hits your face. In a one on one call your face is half the screen; a bright, steady picture makes people stay.
  • Wear headphones. With only two voices, echo is very noticeable. Headphones remove it completely.
  • Ask, then answer your own question. “What are you up to tonight? I am avoiding the washing up.” It gives the other person something to react to.
  • Use the chat box when words fail. Typing a word you cannot pronounce, or a name you want to spell, keeps the conversation moving.
  • Leave on a high. End while it is still good rather than waiting for it to fade. Follow them if you want to talk again.

And if a chat goes wrong, the privacy cuts both ways. There is no group to back you up, so do not wait for things to get better: end the chat and report anyone who breaks the rules. For a checklist of what your frame gives away, see how to stay anonymous on video chat.

FAQ

1-on-1 video chat questions

What is 1-on-1 video chat?

A video call between exactly two people. On AnonSpin the other person is a random stranger: you spin, the wheel pairs you with someone online, and the two of you talk face to face with no one else in the call.

Is one on one video chat with strangers free?

Starting is free and needs no card. Some features inside the app are paid, such as gifts, and prices are always shown before you buy.

Can anyone else join or watch the call?

No. A 1-on-1 video chat is just the two of you. That said, you cannot see what is behind the other person’s screen, so never show anything you would not want kept.

Can I turn my camera or microphone off during the chat?

Yes. Open More on the call screen to switch your microphone or camera off and back on without ending the chat.

How do I move on to someone else?

Tap Next once it unlocks, or end the chat and spin again. Either way, the next stranger is a moment away.

Can I talk to the same person again?

Follow them during the chat. Spins are random, so following is the reliable way to find someone again.

One seat is yours. Spin to fill the other.
